It may not be new news, but many major companies are now realizing the absolute necessity of shipping defect-free products.
We blogged a message in 2010 about "The true cost of complaints". This pointed out the tremendous cost in reputation, loss of customers and of money also when you ship a product with defects. Now, in a recent article in "The Salt" blog, the importance of no defects was highlighted by the giant retailer - Costco. They now require vendors to scan food items for foreign objects. X-ray inspection equipment has the ability to detect foreign objects including metal, bone, seeds, pits, etc., while weighing and scanning the product for proper item count and item placement within the package.
